Poorly Maintained Gate Paddles

Due to a lack of lubrication the paddle is too stiff for women to operate. The ratchet mechanism has seized and does not function at all. One would expect the paddle to close under it’s own weight, but the friction in the mechanism prevents this.

This is Gt Haywood lock. Weston and Aston locks on this stretch of the T&M have similar problems.

Neglected Paddle Mechanisms

The grease nipples have been painted over and not used recently. The bearing is full of rusty water not grease!
