Penkridge Lock Mooring (Update)

Posted in Staffs & Worcs on November 13, 2008 by crumblingcanals

2008_1029_1203321As with all these collapsing bank problems, they get worse with time. This in turn means the repair, when it comes, will cost more. In the mean time boaters have to make do.

Curdworth Bottom Lock Mooring

Posted in Birm & Fazeley on October 6, 2008 by crumblingcanals

The problem is caused by the nearby Canal Pond overflowing after periods of heavy rain. This erodes the lock moorings below. This has happened 3 times now in 18months. As well as damaging the moorings it’s filling the canal with silt!  Just a few well placed sand bags would be a short term fix, but with no lengthsmen who will install them? Penny wise, pound foolish again.

Overflow at Fazeley

Posted in Birm & Fazeley on August 9, 2008 by crumblingcanals

Believe it or not this spill controls the water level of the Coventry and the Birmingham & Fazeley canal for a large area around Fazeley. It is completely overgrown with weeds. I just hope we don’t have the same sort of rainfall as last summer!  The irony is the spill is 15mins walk from the BW offices at Peels Wharf!
